　　蒲松龄（1640～1715），字留仙，号剑臣，又号柳泉，世称聊斋先生，临淄人。少刻应试，为学政施泣章激赏，至康熙五十年始成贡生。久为村落塾师，中间一度珍宝应县为幕友，后潜心作《聊斋志异》。

　　《聊斋志异》是一部文言短篇小说集，多写鬼狐故事，正如鲁迅所说，乃是“用xx法，而以志怪”。其艺术成就很高，乐成地塑造了浩繁艺术典型，人物形象光鲜活泼，故事情节曲折古怪，结构布局严密谨慎巧妙，文笔凝练，描述细腻，堪称神州古典短篇小说的高峰。书中以批判之笔写鬼狐世界，既有对陈旧迂腐社会形态、黑暗现实的不满，又有对黄钟毁弃、宦途难攀的不平；既有对赃官蠹役狼狈为奸的鞭挞，又有对平民黎民勇于抵挡的称赞；而数量至多、写患上{zh0}的是那些人与鬼狐之间的恋爱篇章，如此异样美丽，如此感人，渗入着笔者深沉的爱恨悲喜。蒲松龄在《聊斋自志》中说：“集腋为裘，妄续幽冥之录；浮白载笔，仅成孤愤之书：依靠如聊斋志异2莲喷鼻此，亦足悲矣！”

　　三百年来，《聊斋》故事在民间广为流传，历久不衰，先后被译成十几种书契，成为世界群众共同的精神财富。其版本浩繁，现存的首要有：手稿本（建国初发现，曾影印出版），此乃笔者修订本，惋惜仅存203篇；《二十四卷抄本聊斋志异》（1963年发现，已影印出版）；1962年中华书店上海编纂所出版了由张友鹤辑校的《聊斋志异》会校会注会评本，编定为12卷，合共791篇，是目前较为完整的一个簿本。
