金正日非正式访问中国
Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chinese president, held talks in Beijing with Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Xinhua reported. Kim paid an unofficial visit to China from May 3 to 7 as Hu's guest. Hu and Kim exchanged views on international situation, situation in Northeast Asia and the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. Kim said the DPRK remains unchanged in sticking to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and will work with China to create favorable conditions for restarting the six-party talks.
据新华社报道，应中共中央总书记、国家主席xxx的邀请，朝鲜劳动党总书记、国防委员会委员长金正日5月3日至7日对中国进行非正式访问。在北京期间，xxx同金正日举行会谈。双方就国际形势、东北亚地区形势以及六方会谈等问题坦诚交换了意见。朝方表示，坚持朝鲜半岛无核化的立场没有任何改变。朝方愿同中国一道，为重启六方会谈创造有利条件。

Prices for daily necessities such as grain, oil, vegetables, fruits, powdered milk and gas are soaring in many provinces, steeply increasing the hardship of inflation, xinhuanet.com reported. China raised the deposit reserve requirement ratio on May 2, the 3rd time this year, to curb rising prices. The State Information Center has predicted a 4.2% rise for the consumer price index (CPI) in Q2, indicating a faster pace to inflationary pressure. 
据新华网报道，近期，多省市包括粮、油、蔬菜、水果、奶粉、煤气等在内的生活必需品价格，均出现不同程度的上涨，通胀压力陡然升温。为应对通胀危险，本月2日，央行年内第3次宣布上调存款准备金率。另据中国国家信息中心预测，今年第二季度，我国居民消费价格指数(CPI)增速将达4.2%，通胀预期有所抬头。

中国首条民营铁路开工
Jianan Railway, the first-ever private railway project in China, has begun construction, the 21st Century Business Herald reported. Located in Shanxi, the railway is supposed to focus on coal transportation and it will link the coal mines of the province. With an estimated investment of RMB2.3b and a total of 6 stops, the railway stretches 64.29 km and will be finished in 3 years.
《21世纪经济报道》称，中国{dy}条民营铁路日前开工建设。据悉，位于山西省境内的嘉南铁路为煤炭运输而生，连接着省内的几大煤矿。铁路全长64.29千米，设有6个车站，预计总投资23亿元，建设工期为3年。

As much as 5000 ton of fake peanut oil are being produced every year in Shandong and pouring into China's counties and rural areas, 315online.com reported. Most of the fake "first-level expressed peanut oil", simply cottonseed or soybean oil with peanut flavor, was sent to rural consumers through a nationwide logistics network run by China Post, with an annual sale of tens of millions of yuan.
据《中国质量万里行》杂志网络版报道，山东部分生产花生油的油脂厂家，在棉籽油和大豆油中勾兑花生油香精，大批伪造"压榨一级花生油"，年产量达千万斤(合5000吨)。这些假花生油的"主打方向是走邮政物流"，利用中国邮政覆盖全国的销售网点，直接销往乡镇及农村地区，年销售额达数千万元。

David Cameron's Conservative Party will be the largest party in Britain's new parliament, gaining 290 seats, as 615 of the 649 districts announced their results as of 5:00 pm (Beijing Time) Friday. The Labor gained 247 and the Liberal Democrats gained 51. As all 3 parties are short of the 326 needed for a majority in parliament, the UK faces its first "hung parliament" since 1974.

6 male volunteers from China, Russia and Europe will be locked together in a sealed 5-capsule metal unit for a minimum of 520 days to test plans for the world's first simulated flight to Mars, the Daily Telegraph reported. The experiment, called Mars 500, will get under way later this month in a mock spaceship housed in the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems in Moscow. Daily life for volunteers will be strictly regimented: 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours for work, and 8 hours for leisure. Alcohol, cigarettes and sex are not allowed.

A Mexican drug lord's treasure trove of gold and diamond-encrusted firearms has been seized by the Mexican army, NBC news reported. Soldiers discovered an arsenal of small arms inside a western Guadalajara home belonging to Oscar Nava Valencia. The glitzy cache of guns included half a dozen assault rifles plated in gold and silver. 38 pistols were seized, many of which were gilded and studded with precious stones.(See photo)
