This festival is in early April.On that day, people visit their ancestors at their tombs, wear flowers,and plant young trees.

During the Spring and Autumn period, 2,500 years ago, Chong Er was starving in the mountain. ONe of his followers, called Jie Zitui, cut his own flesh from his leg and cooked it to served him. Later, Chong became the Duke, and gave titles to all those who had followed him. But Jie Zitui, was forgotten by Chong Er, so Jie Zitui carried his mother on his back and hid in the Mian Mountain.

Atr last , Chong Er sent people to look for Jie. They all failed because the Mian Mountain was too large. One man had an idea:"Set the mountain on fire, and Jie Zitui will come out." Chong Er set the mountain on fire but Jie Zitui would not come out. Finally he and his mother were burned to death under a big tree.

Chong Er was very sad , and ordered every family to put out their kitchen fire and eat cold food that day. The custom of putting out the kitchen fire on the Clear and Bright Festival has ended, but people still plant willow and visit their ancestors' tomb on this day.
