My F250 runs like a champ. 725 hours, no hiccups. Purrs from idle to WOT of 6100 rpm's without missing a beat. Never really listened to the engine minus the cowl, but the weather has been cold and the motors been sitting for a couple weeks. Decided to go to the marina, start her up, and check the oil. I started it up, pulled the cowl off, and was waiting for it to warm up standing on the dock. Heard a quiet yet audible tapping sound. So, I went over to the motor, put my head back by the valve covers, and didn't hear it so much by the valves but could only hear while hanging over the motor so that my head was back by the ECM cover. Went up the control, popped her into neutral, gave her a little throttle and she purred. Took her for a run, no more tap? Again, not loud, quiet, but audible and only noticed when idling cold(will continue to keep an ear on it). Did notice the injectors on these motors make some noise so it could be an injector making a louder tap? I know there are no rockers on these valve trains as the cam rotates right on the valve bucket, so don't know what could tap in the valve train? Every DOHC import motor I've heard with valve noise that needed adjustment sounded more like a clatter and not a tap. Another noise that I hear(hard to describe) is a slight hum/rumble that I am thinking is the flywheel spinning. This thing is so damn quiet
