VI. CLOTHING:

Use personal judgment keeping in mind a few things:

• Children will grow out of their clothes

• Layering of clothes allows one to adjust body temperatures accordingly

• Cotton is comfortable and wicks away moisture from skin but does not insulate well when wet versus wool which will continue to insulate even when wet

• Sandals were commonly used in indoor settings in primitive times as this allows the feet to breathe and minimizes fungus related issues

• Footwear is critically important and high-quality boots are essential when in wintry or wet conditions and to protect against animal or snake attacks

• An outer synthetic shell liner that repels rain should be highly useful and different types have their own advantages

VII. ENERGY PRODUCTION:

Electricity will be scarce for an extended period. It is important to find ways to produce it without relying on solar panels. Electricity can be stored through design of a 12V electrical system using a battery bank and means of “off grid” generation. The Troubled Times forum mentioned above has excellent information on this subject matter and should be investigated thoroughly. Please also bear in mind that atmospheric conditions at the time of the pole shift may destroy electronic equipment and that such items should ideally be stored several feet underground during the climax of the event. The following are items that may prove useful:

• 12-volt deep cycle lead acid batteries such as those used in golf carts (note that car batteries have a much shorter life as they are designed to put out high voltage for short periods, and do not last very long if repeatedly drained down); also print and save a copy of document on Troubled Times website on how to repair lead acid batteries

• NiCad rechargeable batteries (are longest lasting; note that memory can be cleared by completely discharging and re-charging 3 times)

• Inverters of varying amperages (also consider multi-function inverters) so that AC powered items can be operated from 12-volt battery bank

• Alternators and instructions on how to create makeshift electrical generating devices (see Troubled Times web site for more information)

• Wires of varying resistance

• Wind/MicroHydro/Pedal power generators (note: requires picking an appropriate location such as a windy area and adjacent to creek)

• Wood gasifier

• Biodiesel is a topic in and of itself warranting investigation though will rely on the ability to grow grains; if pursuing this path investigate diesel generators, oil seed presses & books/supplies relating to biodiesel production (i.e., mixing glasses, measuring tools, etc.)

VIII. TOILETRIES & MEDICAL:

These items must be tailored to one’s personal needs but items to consider include:

• Bedpan and urethral catheterization kit if dealing with elderly or one that may be developing diseases such as Alzheimer’s

• Books on primitive medical treatment such as “Where There is No Doctor” and "Where There is No Dentist"; homeopathic information and supplies such as essential oils may also prove to be of great value
