Materials supported by sheet metal processing
Various metals and metal alloys can be made into plates and used in the manufacture of sheet metal parts.
The selection of materials depends on the requirements of the parts, and the factors for selecting materials include formability, weldability, corrosion resistance, strength, weight and cost.
The following are typical sheet metal materials:
Stainless steel.
Two kinds of stainless steel are used in the manufacture of metal plates-standard parts and spring parts.
1.
Standard stainless steel can be a kind of non-magnetic stainless steel in 300 series steel, which is the most commonly used type of stainless steel.
Hot working or other stress removal is not required in the manufacturing process.
Grade 316 stainless steel is the most corrosion resistant stainless steel, which maintains its strength at high temperature.
Class 304 is the most widely used stainless steel. Although it has poor corrosion resistance, it has good formability and weldability.
two。.
The standard magnetic stainless steel for processing is 400 series.
Grade 410 stainless steel has poor corrosion resistance, but it can be treated by heat.
Grade 430 stainless steel is a cheap alternative to other stainless steel options and is used in applications where corrosion resistance is not the main requirement, such as brushing the surface of equipment.
Because these materials tend to be elastic rather than plastic, they must be overbent to reach the final shape.
3.
Spring steel hardens quickly when it is processed and must be heated to release stress during forming.
Grades include 301,17-4, 1095 and 1075.
Spring-shaped stainless steel usually requires special equipment and process and must be overbent to achieve the final shape.
Cold rolled steel.
The cold-rolled process is used to smooth the finish of hot-rolled steel and to maintain stricter tolerances during forming.
Cold-rolled steel has 1008 and 1018 alloys to choose from.
Pre-plated steel.
The metal plate is made of hot-dip galvanized steel or galvanized steel and annealed after galvanizing.
Aluminium.
Aluminum is a moderately priced material with various grades of properties to meet the application requirements.
The strength of grade 1100 is relatively low, but it is chemical and weather resistant, weldable and malleable, allowing deep drawing.
Class 3003 is more sturdy, formable, weldable, corrosion resistant and affordable.
Class 5052 has a higher strength, while still having formability, weldability and corrosion resistance.
Class 6061 is a kind of structural alloy with corrosion resistance and high strength but can not be formed.
It is weldable, but some strength is sacrificed during welding.
Copper / brass.
Designers and engineers who want "red" metal usually choose electrolytic hard asphalt (ETP) copper, C110 or C101.
In less common cases, brass is used as a substitute.
